I really had fun making these Smarties cookies. I love how colorful and festive these cookies are. I also like the combination of the soft and chewy cookie and the crunchy Smarties. I promise you will enjoy them too!

Smarties Cookies
My cookies turn out rich, chewy, and super festive! I enjoy them as fun snacks or desserts, and I believe they’re ideal for parties, holidays, or gifts.
This recipe is incredibly quick and easy; it took me less than 15 minutes to prepare. It’s kid-friendly and I’m sure it will be a hit with all children.
And if you are worried about Smarties cracking, don't worry; these cookies don't have to stay in the oven for long (just 10 minutes), so the Smarties cracking (or melting) should not be a big issue.

You'll Need
Note: This is an overview of the ingredients you'll need to make these cookies. Complete ingredient and quantity information is in the recipe card at the end of the post.
- Butter: I use unsalted butter.
- Sugar: I use a combination of granulated sugar and brown sugar to sweeten the cookies and enhance their flavor.
- Egg: I use just one large egg at room temperature.
- Vanilla bean paste: For flavor, you can use vanilla extract instead if you want.
- All-Purpose Flour
- Baking Soda: It helps the cookies spread a little bit during baking.
- Smarties: Smarties are popular candies and can be found in your common grocery stores.
How To Make Smarties Cookies?
One: Preheat the oven to 180°C or 350°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

Two: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
Tip: I highly recommend sifting the dry ingredients to avoid lumps in your batter.
Three: In another bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugars, and brown sugar using an electric mixer.

Four: Add the egg and vanilla, mix until combined.
Five: Add the flour mixture and mix until incorporated, DON’T overmix the dough.

Six: Mix in the Smarties using a spatula or wooden spoon.
Tip: I prefer to add the Smarties whole, but you can crush them if you like.
Seven: Scoop 1 tablespoon of the batter for one cookie (about 14 equal cookies).
Tip: You may use a mini cookie scoop to get the same sizes of cookies.
Eight: Roll them into balls and place them on the baking tray and try to flatten them slightly with your fingers add extra smarties on top of each cookie (optional).
Tip: I leave enough space between the cookie dough balls because these cookies tend to spread slightly while baking.
Nine: Bake for 10–15 minutes. Allow the cookies to cool on the tray for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve and enjoy!

More Helpful Tips!
- The cookies come out of the oven very soft and, of course, hot. Allow them to cool on the tray for at least 10 minutes to firm up before moving them.
- If you don’t have a mini cookie scoop, I think that mini-ice cream scooper also makes uniform-sized cookies.
- If you don’t have Smarties, you can use M&M’s as a substitute.
- I store these cookies in an airtight container or cookie jar at room temperature. They should be good to eat for about 5 days.
Freeze The Cookie Dough
I recommend freezing these cookies before baking. To do so, shape the dough into cookies and flash-freeze them on baking trays, then transfer them to freezer bags and keep them in the freezer. When baking from frozen, I suggest increasing the baking time by about 7 minutes.
