Honey Roasted Mixed Nuts
Seriously, this is a fuss-free, wonderful snack made with simple ingredients. I also like this recipe because it is a perfect substitute for my family’s unhealthy penchant for processed chips and is excellent for a Holiday gift.
This crunchy and sweet snack incorporates the great flavors of honey, salt, sugar, and cayenne pepper with the earthy flavors of mixed nuts, to elevate this otherwise boring food to culinary delights.
Storing these honey-roasted nuts in your home allows you to have easy access to healthy treats that you can bust out during any occasion.
What are in the Recipe?
Full information on ingredients and quantities is in the recipe card at the end of the post.
Butter: Butter adds a creamy taste and texture to the mixed nuts. I use unsalted butter so as not to add any more saltiness to the ingredients.
Honey: Honey is where the recipe derives its main flavor. You can use your favorite honey brands. Whether you prefer raw or processed, each type of honey will still lend great flavors to this recipe.
Mixed nuts: I use raw, unsalted nuts. You can opt to buy mixed nuts that are pre-packaged together, or you can buy them separately to create your potpourri of honeyed nuts. I use almonds, walnuts, pistachios and cashews.
Cayenne pepper: Cayenne adds that little “oomph” to the recipe. Cayenne has a subtle heat taste to it that complements the sweetness of the honey and the sugar in this recipe. You can replace it with chili powder if you like.
Brown sugar: It adds a bit of additional sweetening to the nuts.
Sea salt: It balances out the sweetness of the honey and sugar.
How to Make Honey Roasted Mixed Nuts
One: Preheat your oven to 150 C / 300 F, and also, line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Tip: Roast nuts in low heat to ensure that they roast evenly and you don’t burn them.
Two: In a saucepan, melt both butter and honey over low heat, stirring frequently with a wooden spoon until mixed.
Tip: Melt butter and honey on low heat; using higher heat might burn the butter.
Three: Stir in the nuts and cayenne pepper (make sure the nuts are evenly coated).
Four: Now, spread all the nuts onto the baking sheet in a single layer.
Five: Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes until the nuts are golden brown.
Six: Remove from the oven and sprinkle with salt and brown sugar.
Seven: Let the nuts cool down for 1-2 hours, then transfer them to an airtight container.
Recipe variations
- Use whatever nuts you love! Almost all nuts come in unsalted variants.
- You can also use smoked paprika instead of Cayenne if you want a substitute. Smoked paprika has that subtle smoky flavor that enhances the earthy flavors of nuts.
Serving suggestions
I serve these as snacks, party finger food, or I pack them as part of a lunch meal for my daughter. You can also add these nuts as toppings to chia pudding, granola, or oatmeal.
Storage
These nuts don’t need to be stored in the fridge. I just keep them in an air-tight container so they do not lose their crunch.

This is a personal preference, I used cashew, almond, walnut and pistachio. However, you may also use raw peanuts, pecans or hazelnuts.
