    Homemade Chicken Gravy Recipe

    Published: Oct 27, 2024 by Radwa ·

    Jump to Recipe

Whenever I roast a chicken, I always save the dripping to make this quick and easy homemade chicken gravy. Because I know that's where the best flavor hides.

My gravy is SUPER rich, flavorful and SOOOO easy to make! It took me less than 10 minutes to prepare this recipe.

Pour the homemade chicken gravy on top of mashed potatoes.

    Easy Chicken Gravy Recipe

I always make sure that my gravy is smooth and seasoned with salt and pepper; you can add any seasonings or herbs you like; however, I like to keep it simple.

You may also make your homemade gravy without salt if you prefer!

I use gravy in so many ways: over Panko Chicken, over mashed potatoes and sometimes over pasta.

I will show you how to make the best gravy ever with just a few simple ingredients! It will transform any dish into something extra special.

    You'll Need

Here is an overview of all the ingredients I used to make this dessert. The quantities are in the recipe card.

    chicken gravy ingredients.

To make the roux, I used unsalted butter and all-purpose flour.

Tip: To make your gravy gluten-free, simply use cornstarch instead of flour.

Chicken drippings: I use the drippings from a roast or pan seared chicken.

Chicken broth: If you don't have broth, you may use stock cubes.

Seasonings: I like to keep it simple; I just add salt and ground black pepper.

    How To Make The Recipe

In a saucepan, melt the butter. Then, add the flour.

One (Make the Roux): In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Then, stir in the flour until combined.

Pour in the broth and drippings.

Two (Add the liquids): Now, slowly pour in the broth and drippings and stir constantly to avoid lumps until the gravy is thickened and bubbly.

Tip: Don't stop stirring while the gravy thickens; it will take seconds.

the chicken gravy is thickened and bubbly.

Three (Season): Season with salt and pepper, and then pour in a serving bowl and serve.

    Expert Tips

If your gravy is too thin, let it simmer longer to thicken. If it's too thick, thin it out with some water or chicken broth until it reaches the desired consistency.

One thing I really like about homemade gravy is that it freezes so well! I just let it cool completely, then store it in a well-sealed container in the freezer.

I reheat it on the stove on low heat and sometimes add a little bit of broth to adjust the consistency.
