Smarties Cookies
Smarties are a classic. I remember loving this as a kid, and I still love it now that I’m an adult. This recipe is incredibly quick and easy; it actually took me less than 15 minutes to prepare these cookies.
Plus, It’s absolutely kid-friendly. This recipe will be a sure hit for all kids. My kids adore them!
And if you are worried about Smarties cracking, don't worry; these cookies don't have to stay in the oven for long (just 10 minutes), so the Smarties cracking (or melting) should not be a big issue.
Ingredients
Complete information on ingredients and quantities is in the recipe card at the end of the post.
Butter: They adds moisture and subtle flavor to your cookies. Make sure that it is unsalted though; using salted butter will make your cookies salty.
Granulated Sugar: Sugar adds sweetness to the cookie batter.
Brown Sugar: Brown sugar is the ingredient that gives your cookie its golden-brown color. It also adds sweetness to the cookie batter but a more subtle flavor.
Egg: I use just one large egg.
Vanilla Extract: Gives your cookies that delectable aroma.
All-Purpose Flour (Plain Flour): Makes the base of your batter.
Baking Soda: This is a leavening agent and helps your batter rise.
Smarties: Smarties are popular candies and can be found in your common grocery stores.
How To Make Smarties Cookies?
One: Preheat the oven to 180°C or 350°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Two: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
Tip: Make sure to sift your dry ingredients to avoid clumps in your batter.
Three: In another bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugars, and brown sugar using an electric mixer.
Four: Add the egg and vanilla extract, mix until combined.
Five: Add the flour mixture and mix until incorporated.
Six: Mix in the Smarties using a spatula or wooden spoon.
Tip: You may add crushed smarties instead of whole ones.
Seven: Scoop 1 tablespoon of the batter for one cookie (about 14 equal cookies).
Tip: You may use a mini cookie scoop to get the same sizes of cookies. This will look better when serving (or if you want to gift these yummy treats).
Eight: Roll them into balls and place them on the baking tray and try to flatten them slightly with your fingers add extra smarties on top of each cookie (optional).
Nine: Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes, then place on a wire rack to cool. Serve and Enjoy!
Top Tips!
- Scoop any batter remnants from the side of the bowl and incorporate them into the batter. This is to make sure that you get maximum batter for more cookies!
- If you don’t have a mini cookie scoop, I find that mini-ice cream scooper also makes uniform-sized cookies.
Recipe Variations
- Add some sprinkles to make it look more beautiful.
- Also, if you don’t have Smarties, you can use M&M’s as a substitute.
- You can incorporate nuts or chocolate chips as well.
Storage
Room Temperature: I store these cookies in an airtight container or cookie jar at room temperature. They should be good to eat for about 5 days.
Fridge: You can also keep them in a fridge to keep them longer. Cookies that are kept in the fridge usually last for 3-5 days.
Freezer: These cookies freeze beautifully. II put parchment pepper between the cookies and then wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and keep them in a freezer bag in the freezer for up to 2 months.
You can also freeze the cookie dough before baking, shape the dough into cookies and freeze them on baking trays, then transfer them into freezer bags and keep in the freezer and bake them from frozen. However, you will need to increase the baking time by 7 minutes.
