Fried bananas are one of the EASIEST treats I've ever made, and they're absolutely delicious. All it takes is some butter, bananas, honey, a frying pan, and Voilà!

    Fried Bananas

This dish is quick, easy, and a total hit with kids! It's perfect as a dessert, a snack, or as a delicious topping.

I LOVE these caramelized bananas sliced over yogurt or oatmeal for breakfast. However, they also perfect over pancakes, French toast, waffles or even vanilla ice cream.

    You'll Need

    Fried banana ingredients.
    • Bananas: I use yellow, firm bananas. DON'T use overripe bananas, as they will become mushy when cooked.
    • Nutmeg: Preferably freshly grated.
    • Ground cinnamon
    • Salt: Just a pinch to balance sweetness.
    • Butter: To make this recipe vegan use coconut oil instead.
    • Honey: Use a good quality.
    • Toasted sesame seeds: To garnish

NOTE: All the ingredients I used with measurements are in the recipe card below.

    Step By Step Photos

Here are step-by-step photos to guide you through the recipe. You’ll find the full, detailed instructions in the recipe card below.

Medium-thick banana slices about (½ inch thick).

Peel the bananas and slice them into medium-thick rounds.

Honey, butter, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg in a large frying pan.

Mix honey, butter, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg in a large frying pan over medium heat.

Caramelized banana sliced in a large frying pan.

Add the banana slices in a single layer and fry for 1-2 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown and caramelized.

    Sprinkle with sesame seeds (optional).

Fried bananas on top of yogurt.

    Pro Tips

    • Avoid high heat: It can burn the bananas instead of browning them.
    • Avoid overcooking: otherwise, the bananas will turn out mushy.
    • Don’t overcrowd the pan with banana slices to allow better caramelization.
    • Flip only once: Don't flip the banana slices on the other side until they are golden brown.
    • Coat all the slices well: Spoon the melted butter and sugar over the banana slices as they cook, ensuring all slices are coated evenly.
    • Make Ahead: This dish can be made 3-4 days ahead of time and kept in the fridge to use as needed.
    • Serving suggestions: Serve it with Honey Butter Toast or Self Rising Flour Pancakes for breakfast. It also pairs well with pies and puddings.
