    Fish Seasoning Recipe

    Published: Sep 3, 2025 by Radwa ·

    Jump to Recipe

I LOVE fried fish a lot! And since the secret to tasty fish is all in the seasoning, I made my own homemade fish seasoning! It's simple, flavorful, and perfect for any fish recipe.

    A spoonful of fish seasoning.

The Best Fish Seasoning Spice Mix

This spice mix is THE best seasoning for fish dishes. It takes less than a minute to put together and can be used in so many seafood recipes, such as Fried Tilapia, Fish Fry, Baked Tilapia and Baked Salmon.

I store it in a glass jar in the pantry, a cool, dry, and dark place, so it keeps its color and flavor.

It usually lasts me about 3 months, then I make a new batch because I like my seasoning fresh. You can double or triple the recipe depending on your needs.

    You'll Need

    Fish seasoning mix ingredients.

NOTE: All the ingredients I used with measurements are in the recipe card below.

    • Ground cumin
    • Dried rosemary
    • Dried tarragon
    • Ground ginger
    • Garlic powder
    • Ground coriander
    • Allspice

NOTE: I leave salt out of this seasoning blend so I can control the salt level in each dish. If you prefer, you can add ½ tablespoon of sea salt to the spice mix.

    How To Make It

All the spices mixed in small bowl.

Mix all ingredients in a small mixing bowl until combined.

Fish spice mix in a glass jar.

Transfer to a glass jar using a funnel to avoid making a mess and store in your pantry.

How To Use This Fish Seasoning

Use 1 tablespoon of this spice mix for every 350 g of raw fish; It's the perfect amount. If you prefer your fish spicy, add ½ teaspoon of chili powder to each tablespoon of seasoning.

For a single fish fillet, simply rub it with ½ teaspoon of the seasoning before cooking and don't forget to add salt.

This recipe works perfectly with any type of fish, such as cod, sea bass, tuna, or tilapia and is suitable for any cooking method, including baking, grilling, air frying, or pan frying.

    Pro Tips

    • This recipe yields about 6 tablespoons of seasoning. Feel free to double or triple the recipe if you want.
    • If you aren't a fan of tarragon, replace it with dried basil, mint or oregano.
