I tried so many store-bought salmon seasoning mixes, but I couldn’t find one I liked, so I created my own recipe, and it turned out absolutely perfect!
I use this salmon spice mix for baked or grilled salmon, and I also use it to season fish tacos and all my other fish recipes.

Salmon Seasoning
This recipe is incredibly easy to put together. I like to make a big batch and store it in a glass jar in my pantry, it stays fresh for up to 6–7 months.
I used to add chili powder to this recipe, but it made the flavor too spicy for my taste. So, I adjusted the seasoning quite a bit to achieve a mildly spicy flavor instead.
also, I prefer to leave the salt out so I can control how much salt I add to each recipe.
The recipe works great on sea bass, cod, tilapia, and shrimp. It also works well for Thai Fish Patties, Cajun Fish Fry, Baked Tilapia and Baked Honey Glazed Salmon.
You'll Need

- Smoked paprika
- Dried oregano
- Garlic powder
- Dried thyme
- Red pepper flakes
- Lemon zest
- Ground black pepper
Tip: I don't add salt to my seasoning mix, so if you would like to add salt, add ½ tablespoon to these ingredients.
How To Make It

Add all the spices to a glass jar, cover with a lid, and shake until combined. Then, keep it in a cool place. Your spice mix is ready to use!
How To Season Salmon
First, I pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels, then brush them with olive oil or sesame oil and sprinkle the seasoning on top while they’re still raw. Since my seasoning blend doesn’t contain salt, I add the salt just before baking, grilling, or frying the fillets.
How Much Seasoning Should I Use?
I usually use 1 teaspoon to season one salmon slice about (100-110 g).
Can I Use It As A Dry Rub?
Yes, of course, it is perfect as a dry rub. Just pat it onto the salmon fillets and set aside 15–20 minutes before cooking.
