I use about 2 heaping spoons of chicken taco seasoning every time I make chicken tacos. Since I am not a fan of store-bought spice mixes, I make my own! I also use this recipe for chicken fajitas and other chicken dishes; it's so easy to make and convenient.

Chicken Taco Seasoning
I always find it more budget-friendly, convenient and even fresher to make my own spice blend.
Another reason I make my own seasoning is that I prefer to leave out the salt so I can control the saltiness of my different dishes. This isn’t possible with most store-bought seasonings, so I make all my seasoning blends without salt.
What's In This Recipe

Here are all the ingredients I used to make this recipe (check the photo above); you will find the complete information on ingredients and quantities in the recipe card at the end of the post.
- Ground Cumin
- Chili Powder
- Ground Coriander
- Black Pepper
- Smoked Paprika
- Red Pepper Flakes
Pro Tips
- This spice mix has some heat; if you are not a fan, I recommend using only half the chili powder or simply skipping the red pepper flakes.
- If you want to make an even fresher spice blend, I recommend buying whole spices and grinding them yourself.

How To Make This Taco Seasoning
It is so simple! Add all the spices to a small glass jar, shake well until they are combined, and keep the jar in a dry, dark place, like your kitchen cabinet.
How To Use This Taco Seasoning
I use 2 tablespoons of this seasoning blend for every pound of chicken. I store the remaining seasoning in a glass jar in my pantry, and it keeps well for at least six months.
I use these seasonings not only in chicken tacos but also in grilled chicken, chicken marinade, and some beef recipes as well.
