Ingredients
Complete information on ingredients and quantities is in the recipe card at the end of the post.
Salmon fillets: I use fresh salmon fillets that weigh about 140 g each. I also like to Keep the skin on the salmon because it provides a layer between the salmon and the pan and keeps the salmon from overcooking.
Butter: It adds richness to this dish. You can replace it with olive oil or sesame oil.
Soy sauce: Use low-sodium soy sauce if you prefer a dish that is less salty.
Black pepper: I season the salmon with black pepper as it add a bit of spice without having to add too much heat to the dish.
Other ingredients I use: fresh garlic, lemon juice, honey.
Step-By-Step Instructions
One: Preheat oven to 220°C/430°F. Make sure to line a baking sheet with parchment pepper to avoid the dish from sticking to the middle of the pan.
Two: In a small saucepan, heat the butter and add the garlic; cook for 1 minute medium-high heat or until the garlic is brown.
Three: Add honey, soy sauce, lemon juice, and black pepper. Bring to a boil, simmer for about 3 minutes, and then turn off the heat.
Four: Now, place the salmon fillets on the baking sheet (skin side down), and spoon the honey glaze all over the salmon fillets (reserve some for topping).
Five: Cover the baking tray tightly with aluminum foil sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes or until the salmon is cooked.
Tip: Make sure to bake the salmon wrapped in foil. This keeps locking in the moisture and results in a tender salmon baked to perfection.
Six: Brush the salmon fillets with the remaining sauce glaze, then serve!
Recipe Variations
- If you do not have honey, brown sugar is a good substitute. Make sure to dissolve the brown sugar thoroughly in the dark soy sauce to avoid any grainy texture.
- You can garnish your dish with sesame seeds, chopped green onions of fresh parsley.
- If you like your dish spicy, add ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the sauce.
Storage
Refrigerated: I keep leftover salmon in an airtight container in the fridge to chill. This dish can last for 2 to 3 days.
Reheat: Reheating the dish is simple, I pop it in the microwave or heat it in a pan on low heat.
Recipe FAQs
Some salmon is cooked when the flesh flakes off easily. You can do this by gently pressing your salmon fillet with a fork.
If you have salmon fillets that are smaller in size, reduce the bake time by ten minutes and check if it’s done. If the fillet is still undercooked, you can pop it in the oven for another 2 to 3 minutes.
